Can You Put Fondant Over A Frozen Cake?

I have a cake I had to get done for tomorrow that is quite large and when I torted it, I noticed it was still pretty frozen in the middle. I went ahead and put buttercream on it and fondant on top of it. The cake still feels very cold! Is it going to be ok once it defrosts completly or is my fondant going to crack or anything? Just want to know if I should be prepared for a disaster or not!
I think you'll be fine. In fact, I learned that the cake should be cold when you apply the fondant. Mine's always that way, and I've never had problems.
for what it's worth---
the only info i can pass on is when we have thawed wedding cake after a yr--it did great.
i think what i have read is, while it's not preferable b/c of condensation--but if you don't touch it and let it evaporate--it should do fine depending on how ornamental it is--so nothing slides off.
i'm sure it will do great. good luck!
I have frozen a cake already covered in fondant and it did fine on thawing, BUT i have also frozen a cake that just had a crumb coat of buttercream as it was a sculpted cake, took it out of the freezer and covered it in fondant while it was still frozen. fondant went on fine. but later when i went to look at it, the fondant was a gooey mess and i had to take it all off and start again. I will never cover a frozen cake again in fondant. i dont recommend it. sorry.
Yeah, we had a chemical holding company building catch on fire and blow up late last night. It happened about 5 miles from me, but the danger is only in a two mile radius, so I have lucked out. Thank God, as I have five cakes due today and tomorrow! People aren't going to be able to return to thier homes till probably 2-3 days. I don't know what I would have done if I had to leave!!
