Please let me know if you have had experience making chcolate curls. Did you soften the chocolate bar before using the peeler or did you warm the peeler under hot water before peeling the chocolate. Please advise. Thanks so much!

Slightly soften the bar. I do this by turning my burner on, and then waving the bar above the flame just to get it a little glossy. Let it cool slightly and then you get good curls. I wouldn't recommend the water/peeler because by the time you wipe the peeler off you've already lost most of the heat.

I make chocolate curls all the time, but they're small. If you're looking to do the long ones, I haven't done those yet. But if you want smaller ones, I do soften the bar up a bit in the microwave - just a few seconds to make it soft (unless it's warm in your house - then let it sit out a while to soften up). If you try to peel it when it's cold, you don't get very nice curls at all - more like shavings. But I found this was time consuming, so now I put the pieces of chocolate in my Pampered Chef cheese grater - the one with a crank handle, and it makes curls so fast and so much less messier than holding the bar in my hand and using a peeler. Since I like to cover the sides with chocolate shavings, this method saves SO Much time over the other way. But i would recommend you wear gloves either way to keep it from getting all over your hands! There's a chocolate cake in my photos if you'd like to see the end result, but they may be smaller than what you're looking for.

Thanks for the tips. I tried to make curls once for a cake, and all I ended up with were shavings. Still used them on the sides.
