glad you asked because I was thinking the same dang thing. I was thinking why arent they plastic? Why are they styrofoam? How do you reuse it lol ![]()
Hmm...well, I just press all the wrinkly parts down so they stick to eachother, then between the crisco and the thickness of the fondant it just is smooth. This is a dummy cake done this way:

i used to use shortening, but then found out water is just as good! now i just sprinkle them with water and cover as usual. i don't bother covering the dummy with plastic first, just spray them down with hot water when im done to clean them off. most of my cakes are dummies as i've been building my wedding cake portfolio since i just started my biz. i reused the same dummies over and over and over and they're still going strong!
