I am doing a coffin cake for a 40th/halloween party. I would like the coffin to be open (as though it were hinged open- not slid open). Does anyone have any suggestions of how to do with without being able to see the supports? Thanks!!

The being inside could be pushing it open with it's appendage...tentacle, arm, big globs of pulsating slime - you know THAT sort of thing. icon_biggrin.gif

The coffin will have a skeleton inside. I am trying to figure out how to prop the lid of the coffin open without being able to see the support system (kind of like a jewelry box hinge).

If you do not mind the lid NOT being edible you could bend a piece of cardboard so that it tuckes up under the base of the cake and extends up the back of the coffin over the coffin. Decorate it with fondant or icing and just let them know the lid is not edible.
