More Chocolate Leaves Questions

Sorry, for some reason it is not letting me reply to the other thread.
I have 3 additional chocolate leaves questions.
1) Can you use melted chocolate chips to do this or only candy melts?
2) Does anyone know if maple leaves are okay or considered toxic?
3) Do the leaves have to stay refrigerated until they are ready to go on the cake (2-3 days)?
Thanks.
1. Choc chips works. But I like to work with candy melts.
2. I have used silk leaves that have been washed and dried. Unless you have a mold I avoid real leaves. Use the silk and let set,
3. They don't need to stay in the fridge till ready. I set mine in a plastic contiainer till I need them.

I agree on all counts with debi.
The only "real" leaves that have ever been recommended to me are lemon leaves--very sturdy leaves that are non-toxic and can be purchased very cheaply from most florists. They can--and should--be washed and dried very thoroughly before use. They can be re-used many times.

I don't know if maple leaves are toxic, but your chocolate leaves will taste like a maple leaf which is NOT yummy! LOL I'm sticking with fake leaves from now on as I can't really have a lemon tree with my cat or my soon to be 18 month old! LOL
