Ok, here it goes. I need to do a cake tomorrow for 25 people, for a birthday party of someone who is turning 40. They want it to be 70's theme. I mentioned doing a disco ball and they loved that idea, but thanks to the people on cc I found out that a ball pan does not serve that many. So, now I need an idea for a cake under it. I had thought about maybe a roller skating rink or something like that. What looks more proportionate under a ball cake? Should it be round or square? And what size. I have 2 8 inch cakes already made in the freezer that I had left over from doing a cake last week. I'm just not sure how that would look, if there is enough room, you know what I mean? But considering the time crunch it would be much easier using it. I was going to do buttercream w/fondant accents(they want to keep the price down). Thanks for any help.

what about a multi colored dance floor??? You could just lay different colored fondant tiles on the top of the cake.....I think squares would look fine. a 2 layer 8" round is 24 servings.....and the sports ball pan is 10...so that's enough servings.......the round would look fine too I'm sure.....but might be harder to use for the dance floor idea.
The first thing that pops into my head when I hear "70's" is disco dancing so how about a dance floor with some fondant disco figures? Maybe some fondant records on the sides with the names of some well known disco singers...Bee Gee's, KC & The Sunshine Band, Tavares.
'70's is also bell bottoms, PEACE symbol, gogo boots, hippies.
Hope those ideas inpsire something.
