HELP! icon_eek.gif I am a novice cake decorator and learn things by trial and error. I love to decorate cakes. I am stuck though. I am making a bridal shower cake and I have dusting powder I want to use....but am not sure the best way to put it on the cake. The brand I have is CK Pearl Dust SUPER PEARL. I do not know if that makes a difference or not. Thanks so much! I have learned so much through this web site!!

I just use a dry brush, pick up a little powder and brush it on.

I like to use an inexpensive air brush system. You can buy them in the hobby stores near the model cars. The kits comes with small jars, the tubing, spray nozzle, etc. You just have to buy canned air.

Anyway, I mix the pearl dust with Everclear and just spray the cake. It uses much less dust and is a more even (for me, anyway).

The system has no nozzle adjustments. It's supposed to be able to be adjusted, but it doesn't. It just sprays like a paint sprayer for a house.

Good luck on your cake.

you know that luster dust is great for making pearls out of fondant....they look very realistic......maybe that could be a way for you to use it on your cake too.

I've never just "dusted" a cake with it.

I use it with vanilla (clear or vanilla vodka) and mix the dust in. I brush that onto Fondant or fondant roses. It looks great.

just to add that if you are going to brush it on you need a very good real paint brush. not the synthetic ones..those do not distribute the dust properly.
