Help-whenever I try to "smooth" the icing when doing a FBCT, it ends up smearing. How can I get the smooth effect without this happening??
Thanks!

I use a little bit of shortening on my spatula when I press it down. That way, the icing doesn't stick, and it smooths pretty well! HTH

I freeze it once I've completed the picture and then put the icing on the back and smear it.....then refreeze.

someone suggested cornstarch to me before . . . and someone else suggested letting it crust a bit first.

I try to make sure my icing is being squirted down into the nooks and crannies really well and there are no air pockets down there. When you put the back (top?) layer over the whole thing, any air bubbles down there is what allows the image to smear. It takes a little longer, but I use a small tip and squirt down in there really good. Also, as a pp said, freeze after the picture is done before you put on the top coat.
