my dad called and asked me to make him this yellow cake he had as a child. It isn't the normal yellow cake, he said it is dense, really sweet and it had holes in it. They had it every Sunday and it was always the same. It was never iced. I have searched for this on the internet all day long and I can't find anything. If somebody can help it would be great, he has called all of his sisters and most of his cousins and everybody remembers the cake but nobody knows the recipe or even what is in it.

I found this recipe:

Cold Oven Pound Cake

Original recipe yield: 1 - 10 inch tube pan.

Prep Time: 30 Minutes
Cook Time: 1 Hour 30 Minutes
Ready In: 2 Hours
Servings: 16

INGREDIENTS:

* 1 cup margarine
* 1/2 cup shortening
* 3 cups white sugar
* 3 eggs
* 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
* 1 cup milk
* 3 cups all-purpose flour

DIRECTIONS:

1. Do not preheat oven. Grease and flour a 10 inch tube pan.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the margarine, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Beat in the flour alternately with the milk. Pour batter into prepared pan.
3. Place cake in cold oven, then set the temperature to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Bake for 90 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.

Yea...the part about the holes threw me off but from what you described about the consistency, I figured it was probably a pound cake. from the website I found this on, the reviews said it was just like grandma's. I hope this helps.
