Need To Bring Blue Into Daisy Theme
Decorating By havingfun Updated 12 Aug 2007 , 1:44pm by havingfun
I am making a wedding cake this weekend. The bride has chosen the cake with the daisies on stems like the one "Cakes by Diane" and also along the same theme as the rose cake that has been running through the photos here. (I don't know how to attach pics yet, sorry
) She has requested all yellow daisies - got that done. Now she brings me the topper and it is 2 dogs: one a yellow lab and one a black lab. (no they do not have dogs
) Well, one dog has on a yellow bow to match the daisies, and the other has on a blue bow. She would like me to bring the blue in the design. Any thoughts????
I would use very light blue as the main color for the icing, unless the bride wants white. In that case, maybe you can do a blue ribbon (fondant or fabric) around the base of each cake, or a pale blue bead border if it's all BC. Blue & daisies are a natural combination. I'm sure it will be a gorgeous cake no matter what you decide.
alimonkey, I have never done a bead border on a cake - which tip do you recommend? It is all buttercream, and yes, she wants white. I am struggling also not wanting the stems to be the only thing you see when you look at the cake with all the pastels of the yellow and blue. Do you know of a border that uses 2 colors - then I could use the white and the blue - I am thinking it will need to be a "bold" border to anchor the daisies and the green stems.
BTW, congratulations on your weight loss!!!!
I struggle mightily with mine, and would be tooo ashamed to have a ticker on
You go girl!!
I was looking at an old Wilton yearbook (1974), in it there was a border calle the fluted shell. What they did was a shell border using star tip 32. Then, they did a fluted edge (which looked like a ruffle under the shells) using tip 103. The picture had the shells in white and the ruffles in yellow, but you could use the blue there. It would add a little blue to accent, but not interfere with the daisies.
I'm not sure you'll find that border on the Wilton site.
However, there was a thread not too long ago about favorite sheet cakes. A good number of them had really cool borders like that. I think they're beautiful and it's a great idea. Here's a link to the thread. It may take some wading, but you should find some good borders.
If you can't quite get it to look like you want, may I suggest doing the bead border in 2 tone. If you want it big and bold, use a #10 or 12 (same technique as shell), incrementally smaller for the size you want. To make it 2-tone, pipe a small dot on the tail of each bead. For an example, see the recent graduation cake in my photos (shell border though, not bead)
It stood out, but it didn't completely separate the shells.
Well, I finally finished and delivered the cake. The bride came over and wanted the blue ribbon around the cake base. So that is where the blue ended. Thank you all for your inspiration and care about helping! If you would like to see the cake, it is in my photos. I only have one there, I have just figured out how to make the camera share!! I am very new and appreciate any comments. Thank you all.
