YOUR CAKE WAS AMAZING! I am so sorry that you had to wake up to that! I am sure that they weren't that upset. Most people just think...it's cake! They aren't like us cake decorators! icon_lol.gif

I think maybe also the contour of the shape of the cake on the top might have been too heavy. I am soo sorry...it really was great!

That is my fear and I have had my share of big problems...so besides regular doweling and boards, I also sharpen one large dowel at one end point and tap it thru the whole cake...thru the cakeboards and everything...if it is sharpened, it will go thru the boards w/ no problem. If the cake is sitting on a decorated drum, it will go into that a tad also and really support. icon_smile.gif

The cake was Fabulous!. Be proud that you did a fantastic job. I can see how you must have been crushed... I've had icing melt/slide slowly down and I've had 2 eaten by a dog, but I've never had one explode.

I would love to try a cake like that with the beer bottles. With my luck, my BF woud see the bottles sitting on the counter and either put them in the fridge to chill or try to open one...
