Okay, my husband is a complete genius! I don't have the funds for the beautiful Agbay levelor but the stupid Wilton (large) was giving me fits! Every time I would try to use it the blade would "climb" so one end of the cake was a different height than the other. grrrrr! thumbsdown.gif

I knew I couldn't afford the fancy cool one so my husband took a look to see if he could help. After examining the blade he pointed out that it's just stamped out and there is a ridge on it which causes it to climb.

Then he went to the hardware store and bought some supplies. He took the blade off and replaced it with wire (I'm not sure what all his steps were but if you want to know I could ask him).

Long story short, I now have a wire saw that works perfectly!! I leveled two 12x16's and two 14's and they are all perfectly level and torted straight! I even put a torpedo level on them in all directions and they are perfect!

I love that man! thumbs_up.gificon_lol.gif

Great idea! I've always wondered why Wilton didn't make the large one wire like the small one!

I'll try to get the info and pics.

Is there a way to delete a post you've made? Obviously he's the genius and not me since I somehow posted this twice!

What a fantastic idea! I have the large leveler too (because I was desparate and needed one). While I havent noticed that mine climbs up, it still seems to be less than perfect. I really like my small wire leveler (wilton). Makes perfect sense!

Oh...please, please, please, do post how he did this. I also don't want to purchase the Agbay leveler since I only do cakes occasionally.

I'll talk to him and get instructions (and photos if possible). I don't know how soon it will be up but I'll try for sometime this week. I'm working on a cake for this weekend and you know how that goes. icon_smile.gif

That is wonderful news...thanks for sharing!!!! I really like the small leveler but I think the big one is just dirt...it hacks up my cake edges and doesn't cut straight...my DH is handy...I am taking it to him right now!!!!

Well IMHO there are three ways you can go with this...(she says with tongue in cheek hoping everyone get's her joke.)
1) Patent the thing
2) Sell the instructions (Personally I would go for the second one....I'm thinking Melvira and her roller method really missed the boat.) icon_wink.gif
3) Or do as Melvira did and write a tutorial for us for free....... icon_biggrin.gif

If you can do your directions, perhaps I'll be able to find a handy person to make one for me, since I just do layers on occasion.

Well, layering on occasion becuase I don't have a leveler & I use my kitchen knife! icon_confused.gif It's like living in the dark ages for baking!! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

I finally got all the directions and pictures now I don't know where to put it? Do I just put it all in a post? There are several pictures with the directions, it would be quite a long post and I'm not sure I know how to keep the pics with the instructions. (He's the genius, not me! icon_smile.gif )

You can just reply to this post. Do it a couple times if you don't think it will fit in one. Keep in mind that if you post multiple pictures in one reply, start with the last one and post them in reverse order because they will show up last one first.
