Hey,

Today I signed up for a Wilton Gumpaste class. Has anyone ever taken it or known someone who has. If so I would like to know how it was.

I was debating about taking one of these. Where are you taking it?

I want to take a couple of classes at Wilton. I'm lucky enough to live about 20 mins from the school.

Hi! I am currently taking Course II. I learned how to make Mums tonight!! It will be so nice to make a cake and put something other than a rose on it!! icon_biggrin.gif

But anyway.. back to the question, our instructor will be offering the Gum Paste class for the first time in January. I plan on taking it eventually, but due to my vacation and then the holidays, I plan to wait until January for Course III.

I am currently in course 1 final Saturday. And already signed up for course 2 starts in a week. Are the Mums hard to do ?
I would love to take a gumpaste class too. Ill have to see if they are giving that also. Gumpaste is so beautiful and so real to life looking.
I talked to Shirley earlier on here and I posted a gumpaste ? she answered and said for her it was easier then BC but more time consuming. I could see why. She has really nice pics in the gallery of some of hers.
I think her name was ShirleyW maybe you might look at my post.

The mums were not hard at all and they turned out really cute!! Next week I will be learning royal icing and color flow. I have never used anything but buttercream and the occasional fondant accent so it will all be new to me. We will also be making new flowers next week. I can't wait!!

They don't have the gumpaste class in my area right now. Maybe the beginning of next year. I can't wait for it to come here. You are lucky!!

I took gumpaste a couple of months ago. My wilton instructor was one of the few allowed to teach that class every 3 months. It was great, we learn how to do: roses, calla lilies, pansies, forget me not, daisies, apples blosoms, sweet peas, carnations and stephanotis.

It was a really fast class. Just time to watch the instructor and semi-make one flower. You need to practice a lot at home but it was worth it.
I am glad I took it because now I have a better knowledge on how to handle gumpaste and it is really usefull not only for flowers but also for some many other decorations.

Good luck in your class, you are going to love it.

Hey guys,

I started the gumpaste class and like you said nenufares it is extremely fast paced. I learned so much in the first class. We made sweetpeas, daises and rosebuds. The class is great and the instructor too. However, if you don't have a good foundation you may have a problem. You need to have decorating experince to do well.

I am in MA and my Wilton Instructor said that Michaels will be offering the Gum paste class Jan/Feb of next year. I can't wait! I would also like to see some more classes with Fondant and also a cake sculpting class. I learned so much in the 3 courses, but after seeing this web site - I have SO MUCH more to learn!

I teach gumpaste - which is a seperate course than the New fondant and Gum paste! Which being a Michael's instructor we get to teach it first. It is not at all like the previous gumpaste course - which very few instructors taught. I will contrinue to teach both. The new kit is wonderful. I got my instructor supplies Friday. We got the new book, kit and a DVD, that just reviews what we were taught at our Instructors seminar. I think that the new couse is great for begining students and then they could take the gum paste flowers course afterwards.
