Ok, first my name is Sara and I am a newbie. I haven't taken any classes most of what I've learned, I have learned on CC. This is an incredible resource for all decorators. I have a problem I need your ladies help with. I have a huge order coming up and I have no idea what to charge. I have to make 2 sheet cakes (18X12) decorated in BC and simple transfer then I am making a stacked cake 12" 10" and 8" rounds (double layer of course). I need to feed between 200 and 250 people. I have quoted $65 a piece for the sheets I have to get back to them about the stacked cake. Thank you so much for your comments.

Factor your material costs, the difficulty of the cake, and your time. Price your competitors and you should have an idea of what you can charge. In New York, every thing costs more. I wouldn't charge less than $200 for the stacked cake--remember you are using the same skills as a wedding cake would demand.

Good Luck! Welcome to CC!!!! Don't forget to show your pic! thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

Charge just like a wedding cake, it is the same amount of work.

What type of 3 tier is it? What decor? Any fondant? That would make a difference on the pricing. I have checked out some NC bakery pricing so I might be able to help (I am in NC too).

Call around in your area and ask what a cake like this would cost, you have to be very specific about what you "want" and they will give you a baseline price. Then you can adjust your pricing for your area. In my area the cheapest wedding cakes for standard BC is $1.25 a serving. Don't forget to add on for extra decorations, fillings ect.- it all depends on how elaborate your customer want you to be.
