I told my daughter that I was going to mix buttercream icing with strawberry jam for a filling for a cake tomorrow. My middle daughter loved the idea, but my oldest daughter doesn't like strawberry jam, she likes Saskatoon jam. Do you think that buttercream icing and saskatoon jam would be good together? hmm... now that I think about it, if I can do strawberry jam, why couldn't I do saskatoon jam? Maybe because of the seeds? Any ideas, or helpful hints would be great!! Thanks

this is a saskatoon berry.......I've never heard of it either........IMO I don't care for seeds in the jam when used for a filling.
Saskatoon berries are named after the place that they originated.Saskatoon,Saskatchewan,Canada...
They are a great berry and similiar to a blue berry with a small seed. They make phenomenal pies!!! Mmmmm. We had a few bushes in our back field also.

I am lovin the name! I think I'll make it my word of the day! lol
Not that it means much...but my brother, sister-in-law and their kids live in Saskatoon.
I just made the buttercream icing and mixed in some saskatoon (that went through the mesh strainer) jam. One word - YUMMY!!!!!! The only thing just as yummy....the buttercream icing and strawberry jam (didn't strain, because it didn't many seeds). Oh my lord!! HEAVEN!!!
As of right now, I have have one pink and one purple cake on my table. For some reason I don't think they will make it to the school tomorrow. ![]()
