I made a booty cake (for a man's birthday) I covered in fondant and I noticed that it got real hard. It didn't really matter because it was a gag gift cake, the real thing was covered in bc. Is there something I should do so that next time I use fondant (I used Pettinice) it doesn't get hard? Should I cover the cake the day of the party?

It got hard, or was it just dry to the touch? The surface will get dry (and it will crack a bit when you cut it) but the buttercream underneath should keep it soft. I haven't used that brand... so not sure. Did you see the cake while it was being cut?

Ok the cake itself and the bc was still fine, the fondant on top was dry and I guess I meant dry and not soft. I was wondering if it's supposed to do that?

Yep, that's what fondant does. Only the surface dries out a little bit. The buttercream underneath will keep most of the fondant soft - all that is not exposed to the air!

if you keep it covered in saranwrap from the time you finish decorating until just before serving it will not dry out and harden.
