Thanks ChrisJ - please e-mail the tutorial to [email protected]
Thanks again!
ChrisJ: Does that use those little pink cutters? I tried making them both ways and I heard the petals are supposed to be really thin but I think I may have made mine too thin becuase they wouldn't really hold their shape...drat! ![]()

Yes, those are the cutters that come with the Course III box. I add a small amount of gumtex into my fondant otherwise they won't hold their shape and droop horribly.
I do not use any cutters.. I just pinch off a small pc. fomr it into a small ball, flatten it w/ my fingers and kind of roll up the center petal and just keep doing that and adding a petal until it gets bigger. I also kind of bend the ends a little bit.
I know I have posted this a few times b4, but this is how mine comes out..and thanks for looking BTW.. ![]()

Duh! I totally forgot that part! No wonder mine looked bizarre ![]()
I tried doing them by hand (because I couldn't find my rose cutter set
) and they looked decent but took forever and a bloody day to make...which is probably why that set is called a "Timesaving Cutter Set".....
thx
pretty cake...
I may have seen these before and I may have said this before but those roses are gorgeous!
Do u not use the "cone" teardrop portion in the center?
I do not use cutters because I do not like uniformed shaped or size petals.
If you take a real Rose flower apart, all the petals are different in size and shape. I am more comfortable doing it this way. Besides I only do this when I want to. I have no cake orders to fill, so time for me is not an
issue. The only tool I use if I need to, is my 4 inch rolling pin.
Doing it this way is really not difficult. I think it is easier than piping. You just roll up the center petal and work your way around it by attaching more petals around the center petal, and kind of bend or curl the tips a little bit. But the tip of the petal has to be much thinner that the end that you attach. I do not use any
"cone" thingie, I don't know what that is. ![]()
Prettycake how do you do your sepals? Do you have a cutter for those or do you have a special technique? Also, what do you use to attach your roses to wires? They are really beautiful! I agree about that freeform and not uniform petals. Plus the cutters are just so much to fuss with. I think the roses turn out to small with the cutters.
Prettycake, those are beautiful flowers and don't change a thing. You obviously don't need the "cone thingie". I think I'll try roses without the "cone thingie" they are certainly more rose-like than anything I've ever produced. Thank you for sharing your method.
by the "cone thingy" LOL I was talking about some tutorials show making a cone to simulate the bud.
like this one on sugarcraft:

I don't know how to make roses, and would like to try. The roses are beautiful and I wasn't suggesting changing a thing at all. I just didn't want to ty and be doing it wrong.
That is a beautiful rose! I havent tried fondant roses yet. I really want to try soon! If I could get them to look like that I know I would be hooked!
