My hairdresser called me the other day and asked me to do a cake or cupcakes for her son's birthday. He wants a pirate theme. I came up with a couple of ideas and ran them by her, she decided on a 1/4 sheet cake and 30 cupcakes. The 1/4 sheet cake was no big deal, I got an idea for cupcakes from the galleries,Pirate flags with skull and crossbones and chocolate covered gold coins.
I quoted her $55.00 for both- a bargain because I do alot of cupcake trees and usually charge $2.00 a cupcake. She called back and decided to go with all cupcakes as they are now having the party out instead of at home. This way she doesn't have to cut and serve etc.
She wants 60 cupcakes. What do I do know? 60 cupcakes with fondant flags, royal icing skull and crossbones and chocolate coins, that's a fair amount of work, ingredients, and fondant! I really don't want to charge her $120.00 , what do you all think would be a fair price?

Thank You so much for any help!

I would say $80 bucks and see if you can't find a skull and cross bone candy mold to help out with the piping work, plain red dragon tounge shaped flags and the chocolate coin candy for the toppers of the cupcakes, 20 of each thing.

Was she trying to save money, do you think? Because the sheet cake sounds simply compared to the cupcakes ( which sound awesome, btw)

I was wondering the same thing {if she was trying to save money}. Do you think I should just bite the bullet and ask her?
$80 dollars sounds good to me, 60 cupcakes is a lot of cupcakes no matter how you look at it. I think trying to find a mold is a good idea!
Any ideas who would carry something like that? In my area we have a Michaels and A.C. Moore.

I love asking for help on this site, it always makes me feel like i'm not alone. Thank You very much! icon_biggrin.gif

I would try Michle's first and then the other. Matbe Wal-Mart might even have something like that too in the craft section... you know how they are about the seasonal suff with Holloween coming up and all.
