Hi everyone. My brother-in-law passed away unexpectedly and the services are Friday. We are having a get together afterwards and I am basically planning it. It won't be fancy at all but I could use ideas for simple and delicious foods and maybe a cake or easy dessert to make that will feed a crowd.

We already have people making sausage and peppers, rigatoni and meat sauce, a spiral sliced ham, perhaps a big sub, some brownies and CChip cookies. I am going to make pizzelles and a couple of salads.

Any ideas you have for easy dishes that will feed alot of people will be helpful!

Thank you!

Sorry to hear about your loss..
Here are a few ideas:
Pound cake, Vegtable tray, fruit tray, sausages in barbque sauce (toothpicks on the side), something that you dont have to slave over the stove..

Thanks... the veggie tray idea had popped into my head earlier and I completely forgot about it. Brain just isn't working right. Also I make little meatballs with the grape jelly & chili sauce that might work too... like the sausage idea.

Thank you.

Maybe a couple different varieties of finger sandwhiches would work too.

I'm not really sure, but wanted to say I was sorry to hear about your loss.

Very sorry to hear about your loss. As for suggestions there are always the old standbys like potato or macaroni salad. Also pizza always goes over well and doesnt take much to make. I thought if you have the time or inclination some sugar cookies shaped liked crosses with perhaps his initial on it would be a nice touch. Hope this helps.

sorry for your loss. You could do a cheese/cracker tray may be and a fruit salad may work. Little mini-pies the size of the mini cupcake pans would probly work and they are easy to do and the crusts can be frozen up till the day of the funeral. Just pull them out and then fill with some filling, a good brand of canned fruit filling for pies usually works well. Hope all goes well for you during such a hard time.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your BIL. I lost my BIL unexpectedly last year too. For his funeral I made cookies that represented him. He happened to have passed while on the job on the warf, so I made cookies of shells and fish. He also loved tools so I made tool cookies. It really seemed to confort people and were easy to make.

Steph,
My condolences on your loss. It always helps me to cook when I'm upset. I host many family get togethers. I am an only child and my husband is one of eight! Guess who does all the holidays?

This recipe is one I developed and have had incredible success with. It is called pepperoni bread, but it is really like a crustless quiche. Can be made ahead and reheated or mixed up, refrigerated overnight, and cooked at the last minute. Very forgiving recipe.

Pepperoni Bread

1 80z package Hormel sliced pepperoni

3/4 pound muenster cheese cubed or shredded

4 eggs

2 cups milk or light cream

3/4 cup grated parmesean or romano cheese

dash salt and a shake of pepper

Pam cooking spray

13x9 inch glass baking dish

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Spray baking dish with Pam

Cut pepperoni into small pieces. Beat eggs with milk. Add flour to beaten egg mixture, stir well with fork. Add grated cheese, salt and pepper. Stir in pepperoni and muenster cheese.

Pour into prepared baking dish. Bake 30 t0 40 minutes, until top is golden. Blot top with paper towel (pepperoni will release some oil while cooking). Cut into small squares.
Serves quite a few depending on size of squares.
I hope this helps!
