i was wondering, if by adding gum tex to wilton fondant, do i get gumpaste? or is that a fondant gumpaste mix? can i make cala lillies out of fondant that has gum tex added. would they harden enough to hold up? sorry for so many questions, but i've tried mixing the tex with fondant before and my pieces always started to droop very soon after i've tried to add them to my cake. does it need a long time to dry, or what is the average drying time? the instructions from wilton do not say. i'd appreciate any tid bit of info. a friend has asked me to make calla lillies for her bridal shower cake, and i want to, but am scared to let her down.
If you mix gumtex to fondant you get modeling paste. It could be used for your flowers, but straight gumpaste is probably better. You will be able to roll your dough thinner so they look more delicate and realistic. It needs to dry until it is very firm. You can expedite this by putting them on styrofoam (or if they're on wires just sticking the wires into styrofoam) and placing them in a cold oven with the light on. My modeling paste that was thick (numbers rolled like sausages) dried overnight. Gumpaste rolled thin like flowers would likely take less time.
thanks for the info ill try it. headed to michaels 1st thing in the morn ![]()
