Hey- I bought a sports ball pan a while back & am just now using it to make a volleyball to go onto a 12x18 sheet cake. I'm just using one of the ball pans. I baked it last night & it just seems so small! Its about 6 inches at the base. I know there's a mini-ball pan w/several molds-- but that's not what I've got.

In the galleries, most of the sports balls on cakes look bigger...whether its just half the ball or both halves. Are my eyes playing tricks on me-maybe it looks bigger once frosted???

Yep, mine is small too. They do make one that is only a half ball, and that one is much bigger. But the 3D ones are small.

I agree. It is pretty small. Matter of fact, when I made the 3D disco ball that is in my gallery I thought it seemed like a decent size for a small party. The host had a picture taken of her holding it with some other guests and sent it to me b/c she was so happy with it. When I opened the picture I was almost embarrased bc it didn't look like it would be enough to feed just the people pictured!!

OH well!

Has anyone done any 3D balls bigger in a bowl? Maybe I'll try that next time.

I don't like using them...mine always seem to flatten out into more of a football shape, especially the last basketball cake I did icon_cry.gif .

If you want a larger ball, you can try the soccer ball pan. It's got a larger diameter than the 3D ball pan. If you want a 3D ball, maybe make two soccer ball halves? I haven't tried it, but it might work.
