My husband is a huge Chicago Bears fan and I would like to make him a Bears Jersey and Helmet cake but I can't find any instructions on it. Can someone please help me with this one? I tried searching the gallery but I was having trouble going beyond the first page. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Jackie

I've made this helmet twice. For the helmet part I used half of the sports ball cake and placed that on top of a six inch cake that I sliced about a quarter (or less) of one side off, to create that curved shape. So the ball cake actually extends over the bottom cake a bit (see photo). For the faceguard I used fondant and I suggest making it a few days ahead so it dries really well ( I made two for just-in-case). Getting the shape right so that it fits and forms to the helmet is the tricky part. I actually used the pan (laying the fondant pieces on the pans side) to gauge the curve. To assemble the pieces (after drying) I used tiny pieces of toothpicks where each piece meets and clear gel for glue. I also left pieces of the toothpick protruding from the ends to insert them directly into the cake with an added bit of buttercream for stability. Hope this helps. PM with any questions. Good luck! icon_smile.gif
