I have to make a pleated cake in 3 weeks for a wedding. It is my very first wedding cake! I am nervous...
Has anyone pleated a cake before??

How to I do the pleats? Do I cut about 2 inches wide?? The picture shows one side of the pleats overlapping, is that how is it done?
I believe I just butter cream and then pleat, correct?

The wedding will be for 150 people. Will I be okay to bake 12,10 and 8 plus I have to make about 3 bakings of 4 inches to make a high top...I think that will be planty for feed people and copy the design???

She wants the cake that Helipops had done. I am making small changes to the design..please look at link below.

Also, I will be using pearl dust all over the cake including the flowers (cala lilies)...someone said something like pass through vapor (kettle boiling), the pearl dust I have says to 'dust' only...so how does passing through vapor works?? Should I just 'brush' the pearl dust to the cake?

Okay...I done! No more questions! icon_smile.gif Here is the link

Try sending helipops a pm. Maybe she will share how she did it with you.

Well, by reading her description, it sounds like she cut individual strips and overlapped them as she put them on the sides. Then I would guess that when she got back to where she started, she carefully lifted the very first strip so that it overlapped the very last strip placed.
As for the pearl dust, (I've not used it yet but from what I've read here at CC), it can be mixed with vodka or lemon extract and painted on.
The steam thing sounds like what it does is get the item just moist enough for the pearl dust to stick to it as you dry brush it on. I would think that it would work.

The steam vapor is mentioned when making flowers and plaques...after they are dry brushed with pearl dust, you can pass them through steam to make the dust adhere, so it doesn't come off in your hands or onto other parts of the cake.

I can't wait to see this done again. It's a lovely design.

Edited to say: as for the rest of the cake being brushed, you can dry brush your pearl dust onto the fondant before cutting into strips and applying it to the cake. I personally would NOT pass these through vapor-you just run the risk of getting sticky. You can completely brush the cake when all the strips have been put on, but the sheen is greater when the fondant is first rolled and hasn't dried.
