Are they hard to use? My hubby is getting me some cake decorating stuff for my birthday and that's what I'm thinking about getting. I found some on ebay and another site.
Ideas, opinions, suggestions?

I'd go for it. I have a few and I like them. They are a nice way to liven up the side of a cake you don't quite know what to do with. Happens to us all at some point or other....

i don't like them personally. i have never been able to get them to work quite right. can't match up the edges correctly and if I push too hard on the buttercream it may stick in some areas. Also they have to be used immediately with fondant or it won't make the impression. I started decorating about 3 years ago and bought every possible gadget and gizmo I could get my hands on. I really only use the tips, the roulpat (best thing ever) a good pizza cutter, and my rotating cake stand for decorating. All that other stuff is gathering dust!

I don't use them with buttercream but they work very well on fondant. Here is a link to an art supply that carries what they call rubbing plates. I like to use them as impression mats, the designs are endless.

I like them best when I am doing a plaque rather than the whole side of a cake. It's easier to get a good impression when your fondant is on a solid table than when it's on a soft cake. If you're looking for fondant tools, I really like the crimpers I have. They are inexpensive, versatile, and are quick & easy to use with impressive results (at least I think so). Also, I love the Sculpey clay gun for fondant. Mine was about $6 at Michaels (the green plastic one).

I saw the ones on E-bay and I told my DH (EBay fanatic). He said be careful because people can pay more that they are really worth. so I looked and I found some for a better price. I havn't ordered them yet but I can't wait.

I think they look neat.

Yeah I found some a little cheaper other than ebay but the other place doesn't have some of the ones' I'm looking for.
