Butterflies - What's The Best Method?
Decorating By Meg4Cake Updated 7 Aug 2007 , 2:36am by alanahodgson
Hey everyone!
I want to put some butterflies on the birthday cake I'm making in a few weeks. I have researched a few options (rice paper, royal icing, gumpaste)... but I'd love some suggestions! What's the best method for making good sized (at least 2") butterflies that have a "fairy" feel to them rather than "realistic"?
Thank you!
how about cutting them out free-hand and softening them with a ball tool, you could have what size and shape you want then. or.. I brought a butterfly cutter off eBay and just made the centres
What about forming their wings out of wire and then dipping them in swirled gelatin? Here's a tutorial on dragon fly wings. You could do the same for butterflies.

I'm glad you liked it! If you try it you'd better let us all know how it goes and post pictures ![]()
