Does anyone have instructions on how to make a hatbox/giftbox cake?
You know, the ones that look like the lid is slightly open and tissue is showing.

I've done a couple of these types of cakes, and whilst I don't have any intstructions I can tell you they aren't difficult.

I like to make my lids out of cake as well as the box, so I generally cut a piece from the cake about a quarter of the cakes height and put that on a board and then cover the cakes as normal.

The tissue paper is made from fondant or gumpaste, I like to use gumpaste, because it dries faster and harder and you can roll it very thinly. I just cut out rectangle of the paste when it's been rolled out thinly gather it up from the centre to form the paper, then I use skewers through the box part of the cake and prop the lid onto those so it appears to be open, and place the tissue paper in to fill up the gaps. If it droops then I find scrunched up balls of cling wrap hold it up well enough until it dries.

I don't know it that helps but I hope it gives you a bit better idea.

My cakes using this method are in my photos.

Thanks franjmc!
I was wondering how the box stayed propped up.....so just skewers do the trick?
Your cakes are divine.
