Hi
I'm doing a cake this weekend for my uncle's wedding, it will be 3 tiers covered with ivory fondant. They would like scrolls/cornelli lace piped on the sides.

For those more experienced with this --- would you use buttercream or royal icing for this? Also, would you use ivory coloured or white? (the cake is my gift to them and they have left much of the design up to me, there will also be purple roses and white callas cascading down the cake)

Thanks
Buffi

My preference would be white buttercream, but others may have another opinion. You could make a small practice cake and try it both ways just to see what looks better to you. HTH

I'd say buttercream for scrolls and RI for cornelli lace.

Thanks! May I ask why you would prefer one to the other? For example Seaqueen, why would you choose BC for scrolls and RI for lace? Sorry, I'm one of those that likes to know the whys of things...

Thanks

From my experience, cornelli lace looks neater in RI than buttercream and scrolls look better in buttercream. You should practice and see what you prefer. Maybe others feel differently. HTH icon_smile.gif
