You know, it sounds to me like you have everything ready. Just relax and be super friendly and helpful and knowledgeable. If she trusts you as a person, she'll have confidence in your business related ability. Good luck!

Congratulations on your first tasting!!!

There are a couple of forum discussions on consultations, and I found them helpful. Relax, have fun and be confident! You'll shine!

Sounds like you've got everything covered! Just be relaxed and have a "conversation" with her about her wedding. Don't make it sound like an interview .... just two friends talking cake!

I just had my first "offical" cake tasting last week.. Done lots of cookies samples, but never a wedding cake sample before.
I don't have them in my home, I go to the bride... I drop them off in a nice bakery box, 2 6" cakes. Each cake had 2 or 3 fillings in each. I was a nervous wreck.. She told me she would let me know... (I already have her cookie favor order). 2 days went by and OMG, I was out of my mind....
It happens that she was just busy and I got an email from her saying... YUMMY.>>> I was so happy. She said the WASC with the white chocolate raspberry creamer in it was so moist... and the chocolate cake was rich and delicious.
All that worrying for nothing. She wants to get together and sign the contract.. again at the brides home... I like to just drop them off and let them taste it without me present.... that way they can taste it when they want and talk freely amoungst themselves without me being there. That's the way I started doing it with cookies, so just carried it on with cake.

I agree, it sounds like you have everything in order... I bet you do wonderful!
Let us know how it goes...

Good Luck!!!

Well, I tend to go over the top on everything I do, but here is what I do. I put a tablecloth over my kitchen island. I bought 2 stem water glasses, his and her coffee cups, 2 pitchers, one I put water in the other tea and then a little coffee pitcher. I have 3 footed bowls that I put fillings in and then a footed plate that I put a 6 inch cake on. The cake has 2 or 3 different flavors and is covered in buttercream and covered in fondant, then I put a ribbon around it and 3 gumpaste roses on top(all which I keep and use over). I also have 2 crystal looking plates for them to eat on. (BTW, I bought everything cheap at a discount home store) My computer is in view so I have a slide show of my cakes running as well as my itunes playing softly in the background (I hate things when they are too quiet). I right away give them something to drink and cut them a piece of cake, it seems to loosen things up getttin them eating icon_biggrin.gif Then I get my portfolio out and offer the other books I have as well for ideas. At the end I send them home with the rest of the cake.

So that is my set up. I have done almost 10 tastings now and though I can't say it is the "right" way to do it, it definitely has the "wow" factor.

Hope that helps,
Kristin
