Maybe it's just me but when I post a photo, I always hope for a alot of comments and usually only get a couple, I know my cake aren't great but I work my hardest on them and one day hope to be as good as some of the people on here. I am very proud of all my cakes, and then I put them on here to share and I feel like thet look like crap! I think I am done showing my pictures, I'll keep practicing, I only make a cake about once every 2-3 months so I don't get a lot of practice. One day i'll feel good enough to post my cakes again. ![]()
DONT stop posting pictures! I feel the same way sometimes .. its crazy .. sometimes I think my hardest best ever work gets the least amount of comments and then my super fast cheezy work gets the most comments . .. everyone is going to have different likes and opinions, but you should never feel like your work is not good enough to post!!!
booberfrog, don't despair. There are just so many pictures being posted on a daily basis that it's impossible for everyone to make comments on all of them. When I joined CC a little over a year ago, there were only a page or two of photos being phosted daily, now there are pages and pages of them on a daily basis. I looked at your photos today and especially love your cinderella doll cake in the pumpkin patch. You are doing good, just keep baking and have a great time doing it. Smile! ![]()
NO WAY!!!! Keep posting them........I find photos and comment on them sometimes that are already 3 yrs. old!!! I think it's just a matter of what someone is searching for in the galleries and whether or not they stumble on your cake!! I mean think about how many cakes are actually on this site!!!! Don't get discouraged....keep on taking photos and posting them.....you never know who you are going to help or inspire with your cakes!!
Do you ask for comments or just post the photos? I've posted several and don't get comments on every one but know that the photos in the "NEW PHOTOS" section changes VERY OFTEN. Unless I specifically ask for comments, I don't really expect any. Even if I would ask for comments, I'm not sure if I would expect ALOT of comments, as there are so, so many topics and pictures posted. Have you noticed how often the topics on the forums change, too?
One more question.....how do YOU think your cakes look??? Are you able to point out what looks nice and what might need improvement? Just curious, cuz I just posted a picture recently and I already had a pretty good feel for what looked great and what I could use more work on. I honestly wasn't sure that I WANTED anyone else to comment on it. LOL
I've been the one posting pics all afternoon... if you see my cakes they are definately not the best. and i need tons of improvement!! i don't always get comments either. But i like to show what i've done so far. Don't give up!! we want to see everyone's cakes and creations. We all work different and are different in levels of how good we are at our work.
Don't quit posting, I have your cupcake bouquet saved in my favorites. That to me is a bigger form of flattery. Some people just don't have anything new to say or are shy about it all. I like lots of comments and I love to comment but sometimes I start to feel like I'm repeating what everyone else has already said. Also, I know most of the photos I comment on are the ones that cycle thru the home page. There are so many galleries and alblums that unless I'm searching for anything particular it can be a little over whelming.
You do great work please keep sharing. ![]()
I know it is hard not to feel discouraged when you don't get too many comments on something you have slaved over and are very proud of...the main thing is that you feel proud and you are learning from cakes that you do. ![]()
I think it also depends on the classification you put your cakes in...don't know if there are any stats but I noticed my pink cake got more comments than any one I have posted..the roses were far worse than say my blue cake but for whatever reason, maybe more people were looking at pink rose cakes..if you post pics at a time when people are likely to be in bed, church, not at their PC, your cakes may be missed by people only looking at a couple of pages of "recently posted" or whatever it is called ...I have personally experienced posting what I thought was a very good cake (for me) and it happened to be near an outstanding professional looking cake...making mine look extremely amateurish and unpolished
I think if you like your cakes, learn from CC, get inspiration from here and your family and friends love them that is good. I have felt like you many times but realized that if someone doesn't comment, that doesn't mean it isn't a good or an imaginative cake.
Keep your chin up and keep on posting..don't give up!!!
Please don't stop posting! I just looked at your cakes and you are great at this. I know I sometimes question myself and look at everyone else's cakes on here and think.."wow I"m never gonna be that good". But I do know I have't done this that long, and just like you said you don't get much practice. Many people on here are doing several cakes a week!
Now you are just silly for thinking this..I went through your gallery and thought everything was so cute!! Don't think just because someone doesn't post a comment it means you aren't good at what you do!! Be proud of your work and keep showing it off!!
dont stop posting your pictures. you will be an inspiriation to someone. i thought i would have gotten tons of comments too but thats not going to stop me from posting pics. dont let it get you down. the chocolate cake looks yummy. whats inside? choc too?
Keep sharing!! I feel the same way too. But it's true, look how many pictures get posted in a day around here...OMG!!! Another great thing about this site in my opinion is that I have access to my portfolio NO MATTER WHERE I AM!!! I don't take my photo album with me everywhere I go, but I can almost always find a computer if need be to show theese pictures to someone so they can see if they would like me to do a cake for them. Plus YOU can see how much you've improved just by looking at your photos over the months...don't stop posting your pics!! SMILE
Don't get discouraged if you are not getting a lot of comments.
That does not mean that people hate your cakes and don't think you are good enough to show them to us. I post my photos whether people make comments or not. Some of my posts have too much comments, some don't have any comment at all. But I realize that there are lot of
cake decorators here that are more skilled than I am. We are all
different. But we post photos not for competition purposes but just to share our accomplishments.. Cakes are our pride and joy. ![]()
I don't post as many as I used to-not because of the no comments-but because there are so many out there and some of mine are not too far off from some of the others-it is difficult to comment on all the cakes-sometimes with all of them in there they all seem to run together in the "eyes" department if you understand my meaning. I just post the ones I am particularly proud of or that was a bit more challenging than others-thus-not many posted-I do my fair share but there is always room for improvement by far! I feel as long as my customer loves it-I am happy with it. Keep up the good work, don't let it get you down-you are not being overlooked by any means-and just because there is not alot of comments does not mean there were not alot of viewings-some people like to window shop for ideas and you don't know how many people you have inspired with ideas!!!
thank you all for your kind words.
I think the stress from my 1st wedding cake and all really got to me.
I try so hard on my cakes and I usually am pleased with the final outcome, I usually have a few flaws that drive me crazy.
I think I just expect more when I start on a cake, hoping it will turn out like one of the great ones on cc.
I always hesitate to post a picture, but usually talk myself into it.
I know that it is not possible for everyone to comment on photos, I always look through all the new uploads and there is no way I would have time to comment on them all.
I am still not sure about posting my cakes, I guess i'll decide that when I finish my next one, which happens to be next week.
Thank you all for understanding.
Keep posting...I too don't get as many comments as I like to receive. Keep in mind that people post pics constantly. (seems like 50 per minute, I know I'm exaggerating)
I try to leave comments as much as I can but usually when I get a chance to get back to cakecentral its after a long hard day at work. By the time I'm back on here there are so many new pics that I can't go through them all.
I'm not the best decorator in the world but I love to post my pics just so that everyone can see them.
Keep posting! ![]()
Here are a few things I have learned about posting a pic here over the years...
Try not to post at the busiest times. (like early evening) Your pic will be bumped off the front page in a matter of seconds.
Posting on sunday is usually good. It doesn't seem that as many are posting then.
If you do happen to post at one of those busy times where five pics get posted at once and your is bumped just delete it and try posting again at a less busy time.
For those of you who don't know there is a link that says latest uploads or something like that. You can click that to see what pics have been uploaded since that last time you were on cc.
Hope that helps. Just remember things move so fast here on CC now that getting just a few comments is really good. Pics are bumped so fast now that it hard to get anyone to see them.
I just want to say that your cakes are beautiful! I especially like the cinderella one.
