Fondant Flower On Wire For Top Of Cake
Decorating By Lemonydoodles Updated 6 Aug 2007 , 3:27am by Lemonydoodles
Hi again. I am going to be putting fondant flower blossoms (made from the wilton cut-outs) on top of the cake with the florist wire in them.....do I put the wire in before the fondant completely dries.....or do I wait to do that? I have never attempted this before but am seeing it on so many cakes that I really want to try...I just don't want my flowers to fall. Thanks!
I put the wire in when the fondant is soft. If you want to wait till they're dry you could probably "glue" the wire on the the flower with royal icing.
I actually learned this in class on Tuesday, the way she was showing us to make apple blossoms on a wire was to get a tiny ball of gumpaste, (that's what we were using) and stick it to the wire let it sit there so it dries, while you roll some apple blossoms, anyways after rolling your blossoms glue the back of the blossom to the wire with the tiny ball of gumpaste. we use a tylose glue she showed us how to make. Just brush on the stick to the wire and let dry. Hope this helps any
The fondant should be dry before you insert your wires into the cake. Otherwise your flowers will likely fall off the wire.
Thanks for all your responses! I was infact talking about when to put the wire into the fondant...I won't be putting the " accessories" on the cake until the morning of! I just finished making the flower blossoms a few minutes ago & am so excited...they turned out great (this was my first time). Thanks again ![]()
