If you use a good crusting BC, you won't have the problem. Look at the pic here http://cateritsimple.com/_wsn/page19.html .... you can see the indentation on the top of the cake that shows the separator plate was sitting directly on the cake, (in the first pic, you can see the dowels are ever so slightly below the top surface of the icing) yet when it was removed, the icing stayed in place and did not stick to the plate.

I've heard that if you dust the place where the separator plate will go with powdered sugar that will prevent sticking. Haven't tried it myself.

I agree with indydebi. I've not had a problem with it.
But if you are really worried about it, dust with powdered sugar or some people also sprinkle a little shredded coconut under the plate or cardboard.

As a person who HATES coconut, be sure to check with your client first. I would demand a full refund if there was a HINT of coconut on my cake, because I would consider it non-edible!!

Good point indydebi. I've never done it, but I've heard about it being done.

Ditto Debi! I also hate coconut and would never use it.
