I see a lot of cakes on this site that have the cake boards covered with pretty stiped paper, etc. Does anyone use wrapping paper to cover the boards? I thought the paper needed to be grease proof, ok for food, etc. Please give me some advice and ideas - I'm getting tired of regular doillies! Thanks!

I think they use wrapping paper then cover with clear contact film. You can find at Michaels.

Most who use gift wrap paper to cover boards, also cover that with clear contac (vinal adhesive) paper to protect it from the grease soaking through.

Some use a variety of coverings, wallpaper, floor tiles, printed contac paper, and there is colorful foil that is approved for food use. I believe the presentation of your cake board is very important to your total cake, and worth the effort to find the right covering. Hope that helps a little. Janice

Contact paper is my favorite way to cover boards. It already has adhesive and it comes in many wonderful styles. I have a whole plastic wrapping paper tub full of it.

I have used wrapping paper before and used the clear Contact Paper to cover just the top. No one could tell that there was plastic over the wrapping paper. I didn't go all the way over it because I was concerned about the contact paper sticking in the wrong place and ruining the wrapping paper. I just cut a piece that fit the top of the cake board.

A few people have mentioned that they use scrapbooking paper, too, covered with clear contact paper.
