I'm trying to reel in a customer with a white cake and lemon filling. (which I got from jkalman). I need a quick and easy idea for the top of the cake. This is for a male, he just wanted to try my cake. I can't give it to him with nothing on top and flowers just don't seem right. I'm a beginnger so go easy on me please!

Thanks in advance, icon_biggrin.gif

How about something like this? The top layer has just a bit of detail but makes it not so plain. Good luck!

You could do something like simple cornelli lace or sotas (sp) you just do a squiggle of icing here and there to cover the blank spot... not femalish at all icon_wink.gif

Armywife1, no I haven't a clue, he is a store owner that's all i know, very religous. I was going to write the store name on it like his sign but my writing at this point sucks! icon_cry.gif The least amount of writing the better, as a matter of fact I have some scrapping to do to remove what I wrote. Looks terrible.

tmt, good idea, I guess I should have said it's frosted in buttercream. Sorry.

OhMyGoodies, I think that's what I will do, I did put one rose on top, I can sotas around it. I haven't attempted the cornelli lace but that might even look better. THANKS, off I go icon_smile.gif

Sorry dolfin, I think I was typing the same time as you. Good Idea!! but I don't have any mint sprig. What do I do with the lemon, dip in sugar and place it on the cake? That's a cool idea. icon_biggrin.gif With the lace which ever one I do I think that would look great! Thanks so much thumbs_up.gif

Honestly I've never really figured out the difference between sotas and cornelli lace... I know one crosses over the others and the other doesn't lol..... that's all the difference I see in them and either would look very nice.

My mother requested a 1/2 sheet cake for a funeral reception/dinner following type thing and wanted something plain no message no flowers no nothing so I did the sotas over the top of it to take away from the plain-ness... you can see it in my photos... it's a white sheet cake nothing fancy lol

yes, you have to dip a couple of times, can even use lemon w/o the sugar.

Thanks, dolfin I didn't know if you were coming back so I pmed you. Just ignore.

I am going to do the lemons and sotus or cornelli lace. I've never done cornelli but it looks pretty cool.

Thanks everyone!!
Kat
