Thankyou! OhMyGoodies
The size is 12" 10". Butter cake with strawberry filling. BC w/ fondant roses and tombstone. RI curls and bc rossettes.
I'd charge for 80 servings.. $2.00 ea for the cake.. $0.25 ea for the filling
80 x 2.25 = 180
$20 for the fondant roses and accents
$200.00
That's a big cake and it's very pretty. I love the writing!
Thank you jkalman.
The party was for 70. Did I make too much cake?
Also, I know I undercharged BIG time for this...
Too much cake??? Is there such a thing??
But seriously.. no.. you didn't make too much cake. Just make sure you get paid for the cake you make.
Was it for a friend? It really is beautiful.
Thank you! It was actually for a friend/Husbands Boss. I only charged her $75
Nver too much cake!!!!
when it is for friends or family you still should get all of the money that you spent on the cake back plus 10% for your time because if they had to go to another decorator they would be paying full price...be carefull doing for friends as they tend to take advantage of good natured cake decorators! believe me i know!!!!!!!
Thank you! It was actually for a friend/Husbands Boss. I only charged her $75
So I take it you don't have a base-price-per-serving set up? If you were making cake for 70 and you only charged $75, that's about $1.00/serving.
Paint is sold by the gallon .... carpet is sold by the yard .... cake is sold by the serving.
12/10 per the wilton chart is 94 servings x $2.50 = $235 base price. A reminder that I use this chart to determine pricing, not necessarily to determine number of servings.
Here's the wilton chart link, just to give you an idea of servings. A 12/8 serves 80. http://www.wilton.com/wedding/cakeinfo/cakedata.cfm
As jkalman said, be sure you get paid for the cake you made (not for how many pieces THEY will be cutting from it!)
OMG! I know that it was for DH's boss, but you way under sold yourself.
Where I live, this cake would have been about $280-300.
For the boss, I would have charged at least $150 - 175.
Make sure that you always value what you are worth, even for family and friends. As stated before, family and friends can start to take advantage so be aware.
Indydebi, thanks for the link! I will definetly be putting that to use.
I had a very strong feeling that I had really undersold my cake-but of course I couldn't change my price. I'll know for next time that's for sure!
Thanks so much for your input everyone, I really appreciate it!! Now I'm a little ticked at myself...but you learn from your mistakes, right!?!
Cute cake! Don't undervalue your work. I'd charge about 500$ for that cake (but I've cornered the market for decorated cakes on this country).
