I was at Michales buying a plastic clay gun, and as allways, went down the cake deco isle. I picked up one of the "new" Wilton letters & Numbers Gum Paste & Fondnt Molt Sets. Purely an impulse buy. Hate my writing, thought I would try this. icon_confused.gif Well...I didn't have that wonderful "neat new thing" experiance. icon_cry.gif It was difficult to use two colors. One color smearing into the other when trying to "roll" the excess thin enough to scrape off. I gave up on that. Then couldn't get the single color fondant/gumpaste mix to release from the mold. I followed the directions and dusted it with corn starch, but still had trouble. It took me about an hour to get the words "Happy Birthday" done. Then they looked like big blobs becasue there was no definition to each letter with out the other color. I ended up painting the second color on. icon_sad.gif The tool is neat and will come in handy when using the Sulpty push molds. But not worth paying $20.00 plus Tax, that could have been spent on other "neat new things". icon_mad.gif
I thought of returning the darn thing, but decided it was cheaper to keep it. I would probably end up spending more on gas to drive 77 miles round trip and having to buy my daughter a frosty beverage to keep her placid while sitting in her carseat that long. I would have to buy one for myself too. icon_rolleyes.gif Can't have your mouth watering while watching her threw the rear view mirror and listening to her slurping on a Root Beer Float. Not to mention risking life and limb driving down SH-288.

Oh well...live and learn.

well julisa I am sorry to hear you had a bad time with that new product. I was ooohing and ahhing over it just a few days ago but I just knew I would have the same problems you just described! I feel bad that you had a rough time with it but I am somewhat relieved to know that I would not have been the only one having problems with it!

Some tips on this new toy I picked up at a Wilton meeting:

1. When doing the first color, roll your fondant out to a 1/16 in thin. Then cut strips and use those strips to put in the mold. This saves you from having to roll out logs of fondant/gumpaste.

2. To help release from the mold place the mold into the freezer for a few mins to firm up your fondant (or gumpaste). This will help you get your letters out of the molds with out distorting them.

3. You can also use candy melts in these. So you can try that to see if that works better for you.

Thanks for the tips. I WILL try it again. I am determined to make this thing work. If not with fondant/gumpaste then with the candy melts. icon_twisted.gif
I just wish products would work exactly like they do on the package. icon_sad.gif
