Today, I had to deliver the cake I'd made for the blueberry festival princess pageant. It has a royal icing tiara that I'd made on top. Well, the tiara didn't really look like it would match really well so I made up another one. Unfortunately, I was out of one of the colors of RI so when I made new, it clashed really bad so I decided to go with the first tiara afterall...

Well, I went ahead and brought the cake in there. I was really careful with it since those things are really delicate, was threatening not going to see Transformers with my son if he broke it and such. Well, I set it on a table and went out to get the cake from the van. Then this lady comes running out of the hall, "Oh my Gosh! I broke your thing. I'm sooo sorry! I just barely tapped it and it fell apart." I went to investigate and it was in 4 separate pieces icon_cry.gif I suppose I could have "glued" it back together with RI but it would have looked really shabby. I told her it was alright, I had a backup.

So I hurried home and started painting the tiara that I'd luckily made the night before...I don't know what I'd have done if I didn't have the back up though :O Maybe make some roses?? That just wouldn't have had the same affect icon_sad.gif

So, after all that, the new tiara actually looked a LOT better than the original one anyway. They're both in my gallery, plus alot of pics of the cake. I actually did paint the original one before putting on the cake but still didn't match exactly. I guess I should thank that lady for breaking it icon_razz.gif

OH MY GOSH, I would have had to have someone restrain me from BEATING that woman, LOL. What on earth was she thinking?

Glad it worked out though. : )

Yeah, I thought I'd put it in a safe place when I went back out. I put it on a table off to the side but she was decorating the room and went to grab some stuff from that table and put the tiara inside a basket and that's when it broke. I know she didn't just barely hit it. She had to have hit it fairly hard for it to have broken into as many pieces as it did but still, it's alright. I had the back up! The first thing that went through my mind when she told me was disbelief...nah, it couldn't be as bad as what she's saying, probably just one loop off or something but when I saw it, I was like... icon_eek.gificon_cry.gif but, of course, only in my thoughts. I didn't want to rock the boat as I knew it wasn't on purpose or anything.

anyway, all's well that ends well icon_rolleyes.gif

I made a tiara for my DD's 3rd birthday. My DH's uncle arrived said "Is this real?!" and before I could say anything he had broken it. There was no backup. I had a bag of RI and stuffed a dragee in there to hold up the broken piece. Then I had to make the other side "even."

I'm glad yours worked out for you! Even better in the end, at that. Why do people touch things?! Didn't your mother teach you to keep your hands to yourself? icon_smile.gif

Why is it that when you have a completed cake that someone has got to always want to touch. That drives me crazy.....My husband knows better now, he's been given that evil eye so many times he wouldn't dare. Glad you had the backup.................

I'm so happy you had backup. What are people thinking. I did a Magnolia for a wedding cake (in my photos) and every time I turned around someone was touching it!! I'm surprised it did not break. My cakes may be made of sugar but I'm not!! Can you say can of whoopa$$!!!!!

man, I'm just sooooooo glad I'd made that extra tiara. It was just by pure luck that I'd made it actually.

I am glad to know that it all turned out well. The cake looks so cool. I had a princess party for my twins in May, I sure wish I would have been brave enough to make a tiara.

So happy that everything turned out well icon_biggrin.gif

You know, the tiara really wasn't as difficult as I was expecting...If you can do scrollwork, you can probably do a tiara. There are some good templates here on CC. My best advice based on this tiara would be to use a fairly large tip to do the piping (I think I used like a6 or 18 for this) and make sure that where the scrolls touch, they touch really well so that it's stronger. The other thing is, make a back up just in case! icon_lol.gif
