Hi, this is my first post so bear with me...I planning a three year olds birthday party; theme: anything dirty, messy, or muddy. The invitation actually has dirt accents. Now I need a cake, and I'm not really a fan of the no-bake dirt cakes as the main dessert. I thought maybe a sheet cake with footprints leaving a trail of dirt, BUT how to get the affect (clueless)...I'm open to any ideas cause my brain isnt pushing anymore out.
Thanks in advance.

the best thing I have found for "dirt" is to use crush oreo cookies. (I just put them a couple of pulses through the processor)

You can also use chocolate cake crumbs.

Good luck and welcome!

and for footprint shape....

cut a stencil from stiff card stock.

lay on cake and sprinke the crushed oreos on.

If you want a mud look, mix chocolate frosting with some piping gel to get the effect.

For my sons construction theamed party I had a toy dump truck (cleaned and lined with plastic wrap) and put small chunks of brownie messy layered with chocolate pudding and put sprinkles of crushed oreo crumbs (not the filling though- sometimes you can find oreo crumbs already done for graham cracker crusts at the grocery store) It was a really messy chocolate triffle, it went over really well too.
