OK, so I know I'm jumping the gun, being such a newbie and all....
but I was looking at Charm City Cakes and wondering how do they
get that gold scroll work on a red cake?
I guess what I'm asking is...how do you turn icing gold? Thanks, Doleta

I haven't seen the cake you are talking about, but it's probably gold luster dust.

I've watched Duff's show but I can't remember the cake you are refering to right now----(senior moment-lol). However, if you look at my Valentine's Day cake, I airbushed a fondant-covered cake with red food coloring. I piped the border with royal icing, and dipped a paint brush in vodka and then dipped the brush in edible gold dust (available at cake supply shop), and painted the border. You can also use this technique to create a metallic design on the caketop.

Hope this helps!!

Thank you.
I'm just so facinated with every aspect of cake decorating.
I have dabbled in different kinds of art.
But none have jazzed me like cakes.
It is just so fun....and you guys are all so great.
Makes a newbie smile. Thanks! Doleta
