I'm not liking the bare spot under Happy Birthday Dad. But I don't want to make the cake too busy looking. What do you think friends. Should I add something or leave it alone?

Maybe eight candles, one for each 10 years. Janice

Maybe a cluster of roses. When in doubt roses always fill the spot.

I think I would just add a decorative flurish/squiggle/swirl under it

OH, you should add his birthdate!! When you reach that age you should be SO proud to show it off, and it would fit nicely in the space, but not compete. The cake already says eighty on it, so that might be a nice switch!

I agree with Melvira - first thing that came to my head was the birthdate. Great work on the cake BTW

What did you end up using? I agree the date (then and now) would look great! I would also add some cornelli around the entire cake top and sides! JMO!!!

After speaking w/the customer I decided not to add anything. They are going to put an 8 & 0 candle on the cake and I thought that would be a perfect spot!

Excellent plan! If they are adding candles, they will need a spot, and that will look great. Good call!
