Hi there!
I was wondering where I can buy edible chalk for coloring gumpaste flowers. Can anyone tell me where I can get this??

I live where Country Kitchen is located, and believe it or not, they don't have it on their website! If they don't have it, I'm just stumped!!

Thank-you! Lindsay

I just buy the non-toxic artists chalk. You can get it at Michaels.

Yes I too just bought the non-toxic sidewalk chalk at Michaels. But also, "petal dusts" work a lot better in my opinion, and they are at Country Kitchens. Though, they are pretty pricey, but do last a long time. I hope that helps!

I do not use the sidewalk chalk, I use the artists chalk. I don't think the sidewalk chalk would be very dark, and not many colors to choose from. I have found the artists chalk to be every bit as dark and easy to use as the petal dust. Of course, you can't get the pearl dusts in stick form, that I know of.

Thanks everyone! I never thought to use sidewalk chalk. Is it really safe to consume just because it says "Non-toxic", but not edible??

I just thought chalk would be a nice way to get color without the sheen that petal dust gives. Or maybe these come in non-glittery forms...hmmm.. I guess I only own the sparkly/sheen kind.

Thanks, vixterfsu...I will check out that website!

You can grate non-toxic artist chalk pastels using a small tea grater. I buy a box of 48 colors at Michael's for about $5.

True Petal Dust is not sparkly or shiny.

Me too!! The chalks are a bit pricey but they last a really long time and, in my humble opinion, they are worth the expense.

I use non-toxic powdered temper paint, pretty much same as chalk, I just don't have to grate it. Paid about $4 for 1 lb. I purchased red, yellow, blue, white, and black so that I could make any color I need. Works great!

I didn't know about the artists chalk. I'll have to look into that. And no petals dusts don't have a sheen..they just look like chalk that is in powder form.

Chalk is never edible, but some are non-toxic. You can use non-toxic artist's chalk by grinding it down, then dusting lightly with it until your desired color is achieved.
