Ok, this is probably a really stupid question but Im going to ask anyway icon_redface.gif I have always hand washed my KA attachments and pans, but, I would really rather stick them in the dishwasher. I thought I heard that is a no-no, but I really cant remember. So please share, what do you do?

I have also heard it is a no no but I have put my paddle in the dishwasher many many times with no problem. I have put the mixer bowl in as well but not as often because it takes up so much room (I usually end up handwashing that).

My usual rule of thumb for my kitchen...if it doesn't make it through my dishwasher, I don't want it anyway!

if you read the packet that comes with it..it says that the paddle and hook can be put in dishwasher but..not the whisk...

You can put the attachments in the dishwasher. I have an Artisan model. I know you can put the bowl, pouring shield, flat beater and dough hook in the dishwasher. Now I believe it is best to wash the whisk attachment by hand. I don't think you can put that in the dishwasher. I usually wash mine by hand but have put the bowl in the washer with no problem.

I put all my KA attachments in to the dishwasher, including the whisk, and have had no problems. This is the first I've heard of not putting them in, and I've had my KA for years. Guess I should have read the booklet, eh? I've not had any problems, and prefer dishwasher to hand wash, I just feel like it's cleaner, especially if using shortening.

I put it all in the dishwasher. Here is one tip, though, make sure to make them secure. You know the splatter guard thing? Well, mine dropped all the way to the heating core in the bottom!! My house stills smells bad when I was dishes. (I still use it even though one side is melted away icon_redface.gif )

I have always put all of my KA attachments in the dishwasher too and havent had any problem. The bowl does take up alot of space, but I like how clean they come out of the dishwasher.

sarahkate80, Im crackin up on that one! Ive had measuring spoons (tupperware) find there way down there before (not so good for the spoons!).
Glad to hear everyone does this, I am sooo tired of hand washing, I was just afraid my laziness would cost me if I put them in the dishwasher. icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks for all of the responses!

I always put the bowls, shield and attachments in the dishwasher. I've been known to run it with only those KA items and a few measuring cups and spoons inbetween a hectic cake baking day - just to help get rid of the crisco and oil ------------------------------

plus I think they actually enjoy their wet ride!!LOL!! icon_biggrin.gif

I read somewhere that attachments with coating can be placed in the dishwasher. Some KA models come with burnished beaters that are not dishwasher friendly - they tarnish when washed in the dishwasher.

From the KA website FAQ section:

Are the parts to the stand mixer dishwasher safe?
Only the metal bowls are recommended for the dishwasher. The coated beaters are top rack dishwasher safe, but to prolong the use of the beaters they should be hand washed. The un-coated or burnished aluminum beaters and wire whip are hand wash only, as they may darken if put through the dishwasher. The stand mixer body can be wiped clean easily with a damp sponge.

Clearly a case of "should we" vs. "do we", LOL.
