How do you glaze gumpaste items? I tried making some from powdered gelatin, water, and glucose but it was just a mess. My local store sells leaf glaze--at $14.95 a bottle! Can anyone help me?

Lorraine, I just had a post about the same type of thing- I never really got the answer I wanted either! Good luck!

I know that there are recipes out there, but I can't find one at the moment. Here's a link to Nick Lodge's site. It's cheap and you can even thin it out more if you add some Everclear to it.

I have never found a recipe for confectioners glaze (edible lacquer). I use Nicholas Lodge's product. He sometimes dilutes it 50/50 with alcohol or clear extract for gumpaste leaves - mix a little glaze and a little alcohol at a time - shake to mix well, then add more rather than dumping the full quantity of each together and trying to get a homogenous solution. A little bottle goes a long way. It is also sold in a spray bottle to just spritz on....

Thanks, Ibmoser! I bought some of Nick Lodge's glaze recently and I thought it looked a bit thick. I was planning to thin it, but wasn't sure how to do it--no I won't waste or ruin the whole bottle!

I went to a different cake and candy store in my area today, and they sell confectioner's glaze by CK products. You are supposed to clean your brushes with their solvent, but I used Dawn (extra strength) straight on the brush (no water) and the glaze came out. I'll look at N. Lodge's glaze too. Thanks for your help!
