My DH had a vasectomy about 3 years ago and although I haven't gotten pregnant I often worry that I will because of that 1% chance. I guess I am a worry wart but I can't help it. If I did get pregnant again I would count it as God's will and go on but I am just wondering if it has happened to anyone on here?

MY MIL did......but then again I think it was not paying attention to the after part......dont ya have to wait so long afterwards (or go get retested)? I think they sort of forgot that part!

I never happened to me but it did happen to a coworker. And the worst part was it was twins. Good thing they were very much in love and had no doudts that they were not his. This also happened 20 yrs ago.

My hubby had to go back 1 maybe 2 times and get tested. I know we had to use protection after his surgery for like maybe 2 months.

Nope, been almost 2 years. I love my kids and in a way would want another one and so would DH but then we come back to reality. icon_lol.gif

My friends DH had his done and she became pregnant with #4 --procedure wasn't done correctly. He had it done again with the same doctore and #5 will be turning 2 soon. He didn't go back to get it checked out monthly like you are suppose to--and suprise, it wasn't done correctly again. --He has since went to another doctor for vasectomy #3 and this time it was done right.

DH had it done about three years ago too. About 6 months ago I freaked out because I was getting pregnancy symptoms, but it was not so. Anyway, in the mean time I spent a lot of time reading about vasectomy and failure rates and all that. What I found out is that with today's procedures it is extremely rare for a vasectomy to fail. Even if a new tunnel opens up (called recanalization) there's something about how the sperm are deformed and unlikely to cause a pregnancy. Sorry I can't remember all the technical stuff. While it's not real clear, it seems that most failures happen because of unprotected sex before hubby gets checked out and is in the clear.

Even after reading all that you always wonder, because it is possible even if the chances are slim LOL. At one time I thought about getting those spiral things implanted in my fallopian tubes (anyone know what it's called?), but I'm not big on folowing things through. But, if you are real paranoid I guess it's a possibilty. It's far less invasive then having your tubes tied and just as effective.

My parents had four of those after they decided they were done having kids but couldn't agree on who should get fixed. icon_rolleyes.gif When my mom was pregnant with number 7 they went in to talk to the doctor before he would do it and he was asking her if she was SURE they didn't want any more kids. icon_confused.gificon_lol.gif

My husband got done 4 years ago and there aren't any little accidents running around.

There's no way DH would have went for a #2 much less a #3. Lord knows he whined enough with the first one. I honestly don't think I could've stood him through another one. He only agreed for one when I told him a little pain wouldn't hurt him and that it didn't kill me when they cut my stomach open for my c-section (although I really thought it was going to kill me.) I am such a wuss when it comes to pain.

The ex had a vasectomy when our 3rd was 3 months old...but only because I said I wouldn't have sex with him ever again unless he did. I've never seen anyone pout, moan and whine SO much! But, he knew I was dead serious. icon_lol.gif That was 16 years ago and no more babies outta him.

BUT....and I hate to even say this.....a woman I work with had 2 gorgeous kids....hubby had a vasectomy....she had another gorgeous baby...hubby had ANOTHER vasectomy.......she had twin gorgeous babies (5 under 5) and had her tubes tied! Unbelievable, but true. He had the tests after both vasectomies and got the "all clear". They even saw a lawyer and were told you can't sue for "wrongful birth". Those kids were really meant to be!!!!!! icon_eek.gif

My DH had his done 4 years ago. When my sister found out she was pregnant, she and her husband already had 4 boys, and she was 40. A short time into the pregnancy, she had an ultra sound and we found out it was twins icon_eek.gif . My husband called the doctor the next week and scheduled his appointment. The night before he was to have it done, and he was worrying, he said to me ...."tell me again, and I said she's having twins". That was it, he went and never whined or complained. Funny thing is,my sisters husband still hasn't had it done yet.
So far, so good. No babies here. I agree, I think most "surprises" happen before the doctor gives the all clear.

On the other side I had my tubes tied after my youngest was born. DH at the time refused to have the surgery. Well divorced him remarried to wonderful man. We talked about having mine reversed and decided against it. fast forward 10 years was having a lot of problems and went to the doctors and he told me I was pregant. I did loose the baby and had to have a hystorecotmy (sp) because of it. So just to let you know sometimes having your tubes tied is not also fulproof.
