I sent a few to work with hubby this morning and had an order for 36 before lunch. I sent several different kinds so I'm going to make her a mixture of those as well. And I'm calling them "cake bites". I know - not very creative. Any other ideas for a name are welcome!

I like the "cake bites" name! There was a poll sometime back to name them, but it got lost along the line. Maybe it will catch on, sounds a lot more civilized than eating "cake balls". Janice

I like the term "cake truffles." Sounds kinda elegant.

bakermomof2 do you dip them in chocolate? If so what recipe did you use? I used melted choc chips but found it to thick to dip the balls in.

Hey Love to Create- add a tiny bit of shortening to your chocolate chips when you melt them. It'll help.

Congrats!!!

I like cake truffles as well. My husband and I were trying to think up a new name for these just the other night, but we're not really creative, so nothing too exciting

lol, hahhaha you don't want to know what me and my friends call them...

When we talk about them we call them cake Cr@@p!!! lol

I am going to make them for a Book Launch they expect about 300 to 500 people ( that's why we are so sick of them..lol )

We had to do dry runs to pick the flavors and to make a "sample" centerpiece!

I will take pictures of them on site and post!

The launch is on the weekend of Oct 17!!!

PS: thank all of you that are sharing your recipes, you have given me options!!

I am just using chocolate bark and almond bark. It is working well for me so far.

I am charging $6.00 per dozen. I have the ingredients, little cups to put each one in and a box and board for stability so I think this is a fair price.

One really good variation is chocolate dipped in chocolate then covered with crushed oreos. To die for!!!

I wanted to edit my post to say I love to make these...they are PURE profit because they are made from the cake that I carve out to make my 2-D cakes!

I know everyone makes these to get rid of the cake scraps, but I wanted to try these so badly, had no scraps, so I made a cake just to tear it up for cake 'truffles'. If you are a fudgey, chocoholic you will love these. I personally found them to be too sweet. Regarding the dipping, I agree to add more Crisco to your melting chocolate. It will be very smooth for dipping. I took these to work and they were gone in 5 minutes.

I've seen where people follow the recipe that calls for a little liquor of coffee creamer to moisten them (I tried that one and thought they were too mushy...probably 2 shots of liquid was TOO much) but I have also heard of people mixing the cake scraps with bc icing........which do you guys do???

I didn't mix mine with BC, but with the dry vanilla/caramel Creamora and a 'touch' of milk. I found these very easy to work with and really turned out perfect. Very easy to make, look wonderful and professional, but just too sweet for my likings.

I have used both liquid creamer and bc. The creamer gives them a different kind of exotic taste and the bc helps keep the flavor of the cake. Like lemon or strawberry. I like the creamer with chocolate though. They both work ok for me. Does anyone keep theirs in the fridge.
