Freezing Cake With Edible Image ??

Can you freeze a cake with a edible image on it? Finished my brothers b-day cake last night with my first edible image (printed on frosting sheet).
Called him today to get time to take it to him (it's a surprise - he turned the big 4-0). Anyway, long story short - he is in another state on his way to his girlfriend's grandmothers funeral. So I need to find a way to keep this cake until at least sunday.
Well I've done a couple of edible images, but have never had to freeze them, so I don't know if it would be okay or not. The image may start to bleed once it starts to defrost. I would try e-mailing Lisa, one of the moderators, to see if she knows, since she has articles on here regarding edible images. Sorry that's all I can do to help. If you can't freeze it, I think the cake would be okay to store in the refrigerator until Sunday if it's kept in an airtight container. I've had cake last about a week and it still tastes fresh.

Sorry you've had to change plans, particularly for a sad reason.
I'm not too sure it is a good idea, mainly because when I freeze one before applying it to my cake, it gets slightly stiff. Once it is on the cake and is absorbing into the icing, it may stiffen again when put in the freezer, and that might make it break up.
This is pure speculation, I haven't heard of anyone doing this.
Probably if you wrap the cake really well, it will keep as well just in the refrigerator.
Maybe somebody else has frozen a finished cake, I just haven't done it. Janice
Just an update. I took a chance and froze the cake. I put it in a cake box and wrapped the whole box with plastic wrap, then wrapped it in tin foil. Was in the freeze for two days.
Took it out of freezer and let whole thing sit on counter wrapped for about an hour. Unwrapped the box and let it finish thawing with the just the box closed.
There was no bleeding of the colors or cracking of the picture. I was worried because I had piped over some of the lettering with buttercream (black and red). But no colors bleed.
Either I was lucky
or it is okay to freeze a cake with an edible image. I might go with lucky - since I was having bad luck with another cake I was making at the time ![]()
Thanks for the help
