Okay, I've been planning for and talking about my granddaughter's wedding cake for weeks. I've posted pictures of some of the flowers I'll use. The flowers are done, the bows are made and the cakes are baked. The wedding's day after tomorrow and I'm getting nervous about the fondant swags! icon_cry.gif The swags will go corner to corner around the bottom tier which is a 14" x 2 layer square. There will be a fondant bow at each corner where the swags join. I am planning on rolling out a 17"-18" x 4" piece of fondant for each swag and pleating it then carefully, prayerfully, somehow place it on the cake without having it break or stick to the BC in an area where it shouldn't go!! Did I mention that this is my first time placing a swag on a cake?? icon_sad.gif Did I also mention that I love to stress myself out?? icon_cry.gif I'm using Satin Ice fondant. How thin should I roll it to keep down on the weight and make it look like fabric. What's the best way to get it on to the cake? Should I lightly fold it over, place one end first using a toothpick to hold it and then unfold and place the other side??? Oh yes, ithe swags and bows are lavendar and will be dusted with pearl dust. Does anyone have any advice for this nervous (but excited) grandma???

Thanks,
Sandra

First of all breathe!! Second I wish you lots of good vibes...
I'd get the wilton fondant roller with the guides on it. In class we used dowls and it came out perfect. For your large layer you may want to get really big dowls.

HTH... can't wait to see the picture of it!

Breathe? Oh yeah! That's what I forgot to do. icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif Thanks for the advice. Hopefully, the picture will be posted by Sunday or Monday, if I'm still around! icon_lol.gif

First, let me start by saying I haven't really worked with fondant, so I'm pretty much just guessing here, but can you make the swags and let them dry before trying to attach them to the cake?

Sorry if that's a stupid question, I've never made them. It just seems to me there's less chance of tearing or drooping, or whatever swags might do, if they're premade, then attached.

I wish you the best of luck, and I can't wait to see the pictures. I'm sure it'll be just beautiful!
