Here is my crazy story: I was asked to make a wedding cake for my step-brother. I said sure. The bride picks out the cake in the Wilton Romantic Weddings near the front with the fountain. I say great. I have been wanting to do something like this since I have only made 2 other wedding cakes. The cake feeds 247 and she is expecting 150 so I say I'll just cut a couple of cakes out.

Here is when things start to go crazy. She is planning a fall wedding and want four different flavors of cake including pumpkin cake. I'm like okay I'll see what I can do. I usually am a box girl and I couldn't get my pumpkin cake to turn out. But thanks to CC I got lots of recipes and a special thanks to prettycake for the recipe I ended up using. It was wonderful.

Then my step-mom tells me there is not going to be any food at the wedding and there will only be cake and punch. So I figure why not go ahead and make all of the cakes. Since she wanted all those flavors I figure more might not be bad. Experience has taught me that people usually like to try more than one flavor if available.

Now that I have decided to make all the cakes I have my accident. Three weeks before I decided to fall on my front steps and get rushed to the hospital because I think I have broken my foot. icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif Fortunately I didn't break it but it is a really bad sprain and I'm on crutches for a week. My foot swells soo bad every time I'm on it I can't do much. I can't reall drive anywhere to get things. I can't stand the pain. All my cake supplies are in the basement. Stairs are out of the question. Then I can't find my book with the instructions.

But again thanks to CC especially FatandHappy who sent me the instructions along with a picture I am ready to make the cake. I bake all day on Wednesday get everything baked but the pumpking cake. My foot really hurts. Thursday I bake the pumpkin and make all 5 fillings and my buttercream. I pack up everything and take it to my dad's because he has more room. I get all cakes filled and crumb coat the sides except the pumpkin. I can barely stand from the swelling. Friday arrives I fill the pumpkin cakes only to find out my 8" cake is not done. Now what. I go home mix a new batch, discover I don't have enough pumpkin, go to the store buy more. Mix the batch bake it. Go to the dentist in between. Get all the rest of the cakes done by 9:00 and then decorate and prepare for set-up next day. I don't get to bed until 12:00. Then I remember my boys need shirts washed for next morning since they are in the wedding. Wash shirts. Sleep by 1:00am.

Next morning step-mom and I go to set-up. First box I open the side has completely fallen off. icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif Ironically I didn't spaz out. I'm the perfectionist type. Which is not good in the cake business. I fix the cake get it all set-up. Only took about 90 minutes to set it up. Did I mention that we forgot the fountain and had to go back for it and the pillars.

There were less than 80 people at this wedding and I made this HUGE cake. I must be a glutton for punishment. By the time I got home I could barely walk and fortunately my husband brought in all my stuff. I think I like to be miserable. I say I won't do this again. But who am I kidding?

I posted pictures in the gallery. I can't seem to attach them here. They are too big and I'm just too stupid to fix them to make them attach. Thanks for reading.

It's absolutely gorgeous!! I love that construction! You poor dear though!! I just did a cake for my sister in law this past weekend and stayed up until 4:00 the morning of the wedding getting it close to done. Then my sisters had to help me the day of. I was a bridesmaid too, so I was a little worried that I wouldn't be ready in time for pictures, but everything worked out and all is well.icon_smile.gif You rest that foot and take care!

I'm sorry you are injured! I hope you recover quickly.

That cake is beautiful and the table is gorgeous. I love the different color roses and the petals all around. You did a great job, and did it while injured, too!

I'm proud of you!

Just looked at your cake. It's stunning to say the least. Funny how most of us exhaust ourselves to make these cakes. I'm sure you're still worn out but you did an absolutely fabulous job, bad foot and all!!!!

I agree with doleta---I hope the bride realizes how lucky she was to get a cake like that! It looks incredible----especially when you were injured! You deserve a (step)sister-of the-year award! thumbs_up.gif
