i'm ready to do a 2 layer 12x18" sheet- do I need a heatinc core/flower nails for this ????
and if so how do i do the flower nail thing ![]()
as always thanks for bailing me out ![]()
Yes, it will be best to use a core/flower nail (s) in a cake that size. Possibly even two in each pan if you have them available.
Coat your flower nails completely in whatever you use to coat your pans, and they are put flat side down on the bottom of the pan. When the cake is baked and you turn it out of the pan you can then remove the flower nail, it should only leave a small hole that will not show when it is iced. HTH Janice
Yes you need a heating core, if you don't have one then you could use 2 flower nails but I have yet to try that method. Just grease and flour like you do the pan and evenly space the nails in the center, or in the center if you do have a heating core. The heating core gets floured inside and out because you fill the inside of the heating core with batter as well so you can plug the hole of the cake when it is done. Good luck and let me know if you do the nails and how it worked, I have been told it works great too.
ok angD - this is the word
Flower nails were awesome!!!
not that I should have doubted it !!!
but it worked really well and none of the great big hole and trimming to size of the old heating core !
wish I had known before I went and bought it !!!
thanks again
Hmmm...this is interesting. Do people actually use heating cores in a sheet cake??? Is this 2 layers baked separately, or a double-layer, 1-pan sheet??
I've never used these before! Could someone share what cakes they use them for, and what are the benefits??
(My largest sheet is only a 12x1
.
Thanks! Lindsay
