I have not been brave enough to try this, but can you use a convection oven to speed up baking time for cakes?

giving you a bump, since my new house will have both a regular oven and a convection oven and I know nothing about baking in a convection oven.

I use my convection oven all the time and I love it!! I notice the biggest difference in cookie baking time, and that I can use both of my racks at the same time. I still only use one rack at a time when I bake my cakes, so the oven isn't overloaded. I bake my 14" cake by itself, because it's such a big cake, then I put my 10" and 6" cakes in together on one rack. (Still using the convection)

I bake with convection all the time, I bake on all three racks in my oven with very good results. I bake with the fan on low (bake setting) with the temp on 300-325 I like the lower temp for larger cakes.

I have a convection oven and I use it for anything that needs to be baked. I dont notice a lot of difference on things that need to be baked shorter times, but I do notice a difference on cakes and things that take longer. I also turn my oven down 25 degrees when I bake. I love it. icon_smile.gif

I have a double oven--one convection and one regular. I prefer the convection oven. I have cooked one layer in each to compare and the convection oven gives better looking cakes IMO and they cook more evenly when I am baking multiple.

I use my convection oven with terrific results. My oven automatically adjusts to the 25 degree baking difference (thankfully, I think I would forget otherwise). I also use it to its fullest capacity. I can bake 12 loaves of bread at a time. I can also bake all my cake layers at one time. This is the benefit to convection baking. I haven't really noticed the bake time being different, but the amount of time I spend in the kitchen is less because I can bake more at one time. Love my oven, wouldn't be without it.

I haven't tried this yet, though I want to. I guess I just need to figure out how to go about working the convection part.

the convection oven will spped up the baking process....i am not too how much time it cuts out but it will. i used to bake some muffins for a company in their convection oven and i didnt like how they came out. They came out much better in my oven. (not a convection.)
