I just used Wilton's Ivory color paste...but using a dark vanilla as opposed to clear will give an off white tinge.

Ivory Coloring gel. It works fine. I used it yesterday.

Also, if not available. Just a dab of red and just a dab of green.

When you flavor your icing, instead of using "clear vanilla," just use the regular "brown vanilla." This will tint it very close to a true ivory.

Or, there's always the Wilton Ivory coloring--available at the cake supply.

Or, you could put one part brown with one part yellow--at the very lightest touch of a toothpick into the icing. You'd have to touch the toothpick to the icing like a butterfly, though--I've done it, but it's the lightest touch you could imagine on the end of a toothpick just touched into the buttercream and removed. This yields an ivory color, too.

Wilton has a n actual "ivory" gel paste color. I have used it bafore and really think it's pretty. If you look in my photos, the wedding cake that is on 3 seperate scroll stands, with the real flowers on top, "my first wedding cake" is the ivory color. The best place to find the wilton colors where I live, is at any Micheal's store...hope that helps

Do you have any ivory or brown icing color? If using brown, add a smidge at at time.

You could also use regular (brown colored) vanilla. I've never tried this method but I think it would probably work.

I would buy a bottle of the Wilton Ivory color icing dye, or i think Americolor has ivory too, and just add a tiny bit at a time until you have the color you want...good luck!

For my daughter's ivory wedding cake, I used the regular vanilla and it came out a beautiful shade of ivory.

I LOVE it when someone asks for ivory because I can just use a good old fashioned buttercream. I use all butter rather than shortening and then I use Mexican vanilla! It's soooo yummy, beats the clear vanilla taste any day! I have also used the Wilton ivory and it works well too, if you need a more deep ivory....doesn't that sound funny, deep ivory.... icon_biggrin.gif

If you are making more then one batch of buttercream. Take a clear bowl or glass pitcher and add your coloring to it. This way you can see just what color you are getting. Just remember it will dry a shade darker and each batch will be the same color from the colored water. I like the brown and yellow mix along with the brown vanilla. Great Ivory.

I love the color that real vanilla gives to buttercream....it's a soft and happy ivory
